Our Research
Our laboratory focuses on biophotonics—the application of light-based technologies to study biological systems. We develop novel optical imaging techniques and apply them to understand the brain.
Research Axes
Optical Technology Development
We develop novel optical imaging technologies, including CARS microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and polarization-sensitive imaging. Our instruments push the boundaries of what can be observed in living tissue.
Software & Data Analysis
We create open-source software tools for optical system design, image processing, and data analysis. Our Raytracing and Monte Carlo light transport simulations are used by researchers worldwide.
Neuroscience & Mental Health
We apply our imaging technologies to study the brain. Our work includes imaging myelin structure, mapping brain regions, and studying neurotransmitters.
Clinical & Translational
We translate our laboratory setups into clinical applications. Current projects include surgical navigation systems for Parkinson's disease, and cardiac monitoring systems for heart surgeries and chronic diseases.
